She performs regularly in recitals, oratorio, concerts, opera, and at weddings and other events.

Biography

Lucy Mair studied Music and Italian at Royal Holloway, University of London, attended the Conservatorio di Benedetto Marcello, Venice, and graduated with an MMus in Performance and Composition from Newcastle University.

She was awarded a bursary to Oxenfoord International Summer School to work with Janis Kelly, Linda Ormiston and David Cowan, and then with Malcolm Martineau, Karen Cargill and Susan Bullock. She was twice awarded bursaries to study voice at The Dartington International Summer School for  masterclasses with Joan Rodgers, Emma Kirkby and Jessica Cash.

As a recitalist, Lucy has performed at the Corbridge and Steyning Festivals and the Newcastle ‘New Music’ Festival. She performed the UK première of Alain Daniélou’s arrangement of Rabindranath Tagore’s Song Poems.

Oratorio performances include Messiah, Mendelssohn's Elijah, Vivaldi’s Gloria and Magnificat, Schubert’s Mass in G and Mass in C, Haydn’s Little Organ Mass, Fauré’s Requiem, Bach’s Magnificat, Graun’s Der Tod Jesu and Mozart’s Mass in C. She has sung for The Newcastle Bach Choir at The Sage Gateshead, Capella Novocastriensis, Chanctonbury Chorus, Fleetwood and District Choral Society and Crowborough Choral Society.

As a member of Pippa Dames-Longworth’s ‘Singing Salon’ she has worked with repetiteurs Lesley-Anne Sammons, Nicky Rose and Nick Bosworth and with movement expert Clare Whistler. She was part of a Baroque Obbligato Course during which she worked with Howard Beach (Red Priest) and Julia Bishop (AOE), and a Lieder course with Adrian Thompson. In addition she has performed scenes from Così fan Tutte (Fiordiligi), Don Giovanni (Donna Elvira), Peter Grimes (Ellen Orford), Le Nozze di Figaro (Countess) and The Bartered Bride (Mařenka). At Oxenfoord, she performed scenes from L'Egisto (Bellezza) and Street Scene (Mrs Olsen).

Lucy sings the role of Sandman in Singing Salon’s popular, immersive performances of Hansel and Gretel, the last one of which was performed at the world renowned Charleston House and Gardens. She sang Pamina in The Magic Flute and Countess in The Marriage of Figaro, also for Singing Salon, at The Royal Pavilion, Brighton. 

Lucy teaches singing, both privately in Hove and in schools in West and East Sussex.
